Adventure in the Paine and Grey Glacier

An 6-day program that gives you the opportunity to visit some of the most popular places in Torres del Paine National Park, while doing outdoor activities in Grey glacier, such as kayaking and walking on a glacier

ITINERARY

Day 1
Arrival

Our guide will welcome you upon arrival at Puerto Natales Airport and arrange your transfer to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner and a brieng session to go over the trip itinerary. (D)

Day 2
Torres del Paine

Transfer by van to Torres del Paine National Park eastern end. This is a two-hour journey crossing the Patagonian pampa. Arrival to Torres del Paine whereupon you will start the 2hr trek up and in to the Ascencio Valley, stopping off at Refugio Chileno. After a short stop here, the trek will continue for an hour, through a forest of the native Lenga (Beech) trees until reaching the glacial moraine. From this point it is another hour to the top where the high, three vertical towers can be seen at close range. The return trek is a little easier and takes about 4hrs to get back down to the trail end. Transportation to our Torres del Paine base beside the Serrano River; Kau Rio Serrano lodge. (B/L/D)

Day 3
French Valley

After breakfast you will be transferred to Pudeto to board the catamaran that takes passengers on a 25-minute trip across Pehoe lake to Refugio Paine Grande. From Paine Grande lodge it is a 2.5hrs trek to the entrance of the French Valley where there are hanging glaciers and an amphitheatre of granite walls and spires. There are amazing views throughout this trek and the further you trek into the valley the better they become. Reaching the French Valley main viewpoint, from where you can appreciate the natural amphitheatre created by glaciers millions of years ago, it is an absolutely breath-taking view. (B/L/D)

Day 4
Kayaking

ransfer to Pudeto, cross Pehoe lake by catamaran. We will trek along enchanting Lake Grey with magnicent views of Glacier Grey and oating icebergs, lunch.

A short walk brings us to Bigfoot Patagonia’s basecamp on Lake Grey’s northeast shore. After a safety brieng and gear intro, we carry the kayaks to the water and begin paddling among oating icebergs. We then head toward the eastern face of Grey Glacier, with a chance to get closer if conditions allow. Return paddle to base. Dinner and overnight at Grey Lodge. (B/L/D)

Day 5
Ice Hiking

After breakfast, the guides will have an introductory chat explaining the route, the time the tour will take and also testing the equipment adjusting it correctly for each passenger., then take a 15-minute zodiac ride to the west side of Grey Glacier. We hike across the nunatak island to the ice, where guides brief us on safety and glacier techniques. 3-hour glacier trek follows, exploring crevasses, rivers, lagoons, and ice tunnels. Return by zodiac to base camp. lunch.

In the afternoon navigate in Grey III catamaran. Two hours navigation in this magic lake surrounded by ice bergs where the boat does a circuit right up to the front of the glacier whilst you stand on deck sipping your pisco sour served with glacial ice! Transfer from Grey lake to Puerto Natales. Farewell dinner and night. (B/L/D)

Day 6
Departure

Breakfast and transfer to Puerto Natales airport. End of our services. (B)

Climate

The climate in Patagonia is a very important factor to take into account. Remember that strong winds, rain and snow characterize this region. The winds blow from the northeast and the Pacific, crossing the southern Patagonian ice fields and forming continuous clouds that can result in unpleasant storms. Although not very often does the good weather come along to give the pleasure of enjoying this place. Lenticular clouds will announce the arrival of strong winds.

Temperature

Environment 12 to 18 degrees Celsius, with variations of 1 to 5 degrees (higher or lower) depending on the season. The wind chill drops to 6 to 7 degrees. The water normally has temperatures between 4 and 5 degrees Celsius. The sea registers temperatures between 7 and 8 degrees Celsius.
