The Two Best Hikes in Patagonia

This program provides incredible access to some of the most spectacular mountain scenery you’ll ever see. Combine fantastic day hikes around the Fitz Roy massif in Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park with the famous W Trek atractions in Torres del Paine National Park in Chile from luxury hotels and mountain lodges.

ITINERARIO

Day 01
Arrival

Our guide will welcome you upon arrival at Puerto Natales Airport and arrange your transfer to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner and a brieng session to go over the trip itinerary. (D)

Day 02
Torres del Paine

Transfer by van to Torres del Paine National Park eastern end. This is a two-hour journey crossing the Patagonian pampa. Arrival to Torres del Paine whereupon you will start the 2hr trek up and in to the Ascencio Valley, stopping off at Refugio Chileno. After a short stop here, the trek will continue for an hour, through a forest of the native Lenga (Beech) trees until reaching the glacial moraine. From this point it is another hour to the top where the high, three vertical towers can be seen at close range. The return trek is a little easier and takes about 4hrs to get back down to the trail end. Transportation to our Torres del Paine base beside the Serrano River; Kau Rio Serrano lodge. (B/L/D)

Day 03
French Valley

After breakfast you will be transferred to Pudeto to board the catamaran that takes passengers on a 25-minute trip across Pehoe lake to Refugio Paine Grande. From Paine Grande lodge it is a 2.5hrs trek to the entrance of the French Valley where there are hanging glaciers and an amphitheatre of granite walls and spires. There are amazing views throughout this trek and the further you trek into the valley the better they become. Reaching the French Valley main viewpoint, from where you can appreciate the natural amphitheatre created by glaciers millions of years ago, it is an absolutely breath-taking view. (B/L/D)

Day 04
Kayaking

Transfer to Pudeto, cross Pehoe lake by catamaran. We will trek along enchanting Lake Grey with magnicent views of Glacier Grey and oating icebergs, lunch.

A short walk brings us to Bigfoot Patagonia’s basecamp on Lake Grey’s northeast shore. After a safety brieng and gear intro, we carry the kayaks to the water and begin paddling among oating icebergs. We then head toward the eastern face of Grey Glacier, with a chance to get closer if conditions allow. Return paddle to base. Dinner and overnight at Grey Lodge. (B/L/D)

Day 05
Ice Hiking

After breakfast, the guides will have an introductory chat explaining the route, the time the tour will take and also testing the equipment adjusting it correctly for each passenger., then take a 15-minute zodiac ride to the west side of Grey Glacier. We hike across the nunatak island to the ice, where guides brief us on safety and glacier techniques. 3-hour glacier trek follows, exploring crevasses, rivers, lagoons, and ice tunnels. Return by zodiac to base camp. lunch.

In the afternoon navigate in Grey III catamaran. Two hours navigation in this magic lake surrounded by ice bergs where the boat does a circuit right up to the front of the glacier whilst you stand on deck sipping your pisco sour served with glacial ice! Transfer from Grey lake to Puerto Natales. Farewell dinner and night. (B/L/D)

Day 06
El Chalten, Argentina

After breakfast, transfer to El Calafate, a five hour drive across the scenic Patagonian
pampa. Enjoy free time for lunch before continuing onward to El Chaltén. Accommodation at Destino Sur or a similar hotel. In the evening, gather for a welcome dinner and a briefing with your guide to discuss the upcoming hiking days. (B/D)

Day 07
Fitz Roy

After breakfast, we’ll transfer by private vehicle to Hostería El Pilar. From there, we start our hike through a Patagonian lenga forest alongside the Blanco River, stopping to learn about local ora and fauna. After about an hour, we’ll reach the Piedras Blancas Glacier viewpoint a perfect spot for photos and to observe the glacier’s retreat over the years. Continuing towards Poincenot Camp, we’ll enjoy stunning views of the Fitz Roy massif, crossing the Blanco River bridge to reach the trail’s nal ascent to Laguna de los Tres.

We’ll have lunch and rest at the lake before descending to Poincenot Camp. There, snacks await us while we relax and later enjoy a private dome dinner, complete with

Day 08
Cerro Torre

After a full breakfast at our private dome, we begin the second day’s trek, leaving the Fitz Roy massif behind as we head towards the valley of Lake Mother and Daughter, with Cerro Torre as our nal destination. Along the trail, we’ll stop at scenic lakes for photos and, with some luck, spot a colony of Patagonian geese. Continuing through lenga and ñire forests, we cross an old moraine to reach Lake Torre and the impressive Grande Glacier. If weather permits, we’ll hike further to the Maestri viewpoint for an even closer look at the glacier. After completing the circuit, we return to El Chaltén via the Fitz Roy River valley, stopping at the classic viewpoint and the beautiful Margarita waterfall. (B/L)

Day 09
Perito Moreno Glacier

After breakfast, depart El Chaltén with a private transfer towards El Calafate, enjoying the sweeping landscapes of the Patagonian steppe along the way. Upon arrival, you’ll have free time for lunch and an opportunity to stroll through this charming town, known as the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park. In the afternoon, we set out to visit the magnicent Perito Moreno Glacier, one of Patagonia’s most impressive natural wonders. You’ll have time to explore the walkways for different viewpoints of the glacier’s dramatic ice formations. To complete the experience, we’ll embark on a scenic navigation across Lake Argentino, offering a unique perspective of Perito Moreno’s towering ice walls and its constant, thunderous calving into the water. Transfer back to El Calafate, accommodation at Esplendor hotel or similar. (B)

Departure

Breakfast and transfer to El Calafate airport. End of our services. (B)
